The eurasian elk (Alces laces) or moose is the biggest of the extant deer species. The largest European populations can be found in Scandinavia (around 400.000 individuals) and Siberia (700.000 individuals), where they are hunted in autumn. There are also small populations in Poland, Belarus, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine.
